“The brush is my scream, my silent and my peaceful battle” Qatari artist Amal Al-Aathem paintings are journeys into the soul of women, an echo of their spiritual dimensions. She uses her brush to dig deep into cultural dilemmas, expressing them through colors and lines, stamping her artistic identity ‘woman’s whisper’ in all her work – somewhere, somehow, there is always a silhouette of a woman, reaching out to express a thought.
Amal was born in 1968 and initiated her creative journey in 1989 at the High Institute of Dramatic art in Kuwait after which she graduated from Qatar University in 1995 with a Bachelor Degree in Arts Education.
She held her first private exhibition in Bahrain in 2000. Since then she has gone on to establish an art gallery in the Doha General Post Office in 2005 and won many awards for her work including the Grand Prize: Youth Art Exhibition 2004.
Amal has exhibited in Lebanon, Japan and the United States and recently at the Salon d’Autome de Paris 2011.
